Who should join?
Whatever your age or level of astronomy experience, join Maple Valley's only club dedicated to all things astronomical. Don't worry about equipment, your enthusiasm is the most important thing. We don't care if you have a telescope, binoculars, or nothing but a lawn chair and severe neck pain. If you're new to astronomy, let our members show you around the sky. If you're an experienced skymaster, share your experience with us.

What's in it for me?
When you join our club and meet others who share an interest in astronomy, the benefits of sharing information, enthusiasm, and experience are priceless. Even so, there are some people who want to know, “If I join, what do I get?” Here are a few of the benefits of membership:

  • You’ll be invited to attend members-only observing sessions held at one of King County’s best astronomical viewing sites and the official observing site for MVAS, Hobart Hill. Even though the site is a mere 10 minutes from “downtown” Maple Valley, it gets dark enough to see many faint objects with the unaided eye including The Milky Way, The Andromeda Galaxy, and stars of about magnitude 5 or 6 depending on atmospheric conditions. Of course, with a telescope you can easily see faint objects like almost the entire Messier catalog!

  • If you don't own your own telescope, members also have access to our club telescopes, by way of our telescope loan program.

  • The good people at Sky & Telescope magazine have made subscriptions available to our members at a reduced price. Normally a one-year subscription is $42.95, but with your membership, you can get it for $32.95 — that's $10 off! You also get 10% off all other publications from Sky & Telescope like books, charts, and more.

How Much Does it Cost?
We want our club and our observing site to be accessible to as many people as possible, but we can’t do it for free. Your donation of $25 will buy a year of membership. Your kids can join for free along with your paid adult membership. Students and retired seniors are also free (Click here if you qualify for free membership).

To join, click on the register button below and get your instant MVAS membership card. Once you have a membership ID number, contact Jim if you decide you want your S&T discount subscription.

Important note: Our club is, officially, a business operated without profit by Jim Love and is not currently holding elections and has no elected officers. Elections may be held sometime in the future depending on the growth of the club and the eventual drafting of bylaws. It's the desire of this club to focus as much as possible on astronomy only and very few members have the time or desire for even the basics of operating a club. If we were to grow in membership to a sustainable level of regular involvement, this would certainly change.
